In a weekend full of upsets, Lincolnshire came out very well in the 2007 Boston Junior Open. In the Boy's Under 11s, James Peach came through a qualifier, before beating Harry Falconer of Lincolnshire and then Hamish Gilliams in the final to claim his trophy.
Up a level, and into the Boy's Under 13s, came our first upset as the second seed, from Lincolnshire, Sammy Haycock went out to eventual runner up Jordon Coppock ub the quarter finals. Although this denied an all-Lincolnshire final, it was still a Lincolnshire player who won the event, with Hamish Falconer beating Jordon Coppock with relative ease in the final. Also in this event, Boston's Patrick Hildred reached the quarters, and Lindum's Wesley Elcock played well to lose 3/1 in the first round to Yousef Eissa. In the Girl's Under 13s, just one match was played, with Lauren West beating Emily Peach to one, two and love.
In the Boy's Under 15s, Dominic Price from Horncastle put up another great display for Lincolnshire. Unseeded, he first took out 5/8 seed James Grice to just three points, before then beating second seed Josh Taylor (who had earlier beaten Phil Roberts froom Horncastle in the first round) - coming from 2-0 down to win 3/2. His run ultimately ended in the semis, when he was put out by 5/8 seed Joe Mattharu. After being 2-0 in this match and having in his matches scored exactly 100 points between him and his opponents to Mattharu's 57, tiredness was ultimately a big factor in this! Earlier on, in an all-Lincolnshire qualifier, Daniel Hebert from Eastgate had beaten Rory Hannam from Horncastle, which seup another all-Lincolnshire match between him and Luke Heath from Millfields Grimsby. Luke took this match by three games to love.
In the Girl's Under 17s, a round robin between Charlotte Kirkwood, Hannah Sewell, Boston's Ellie Williamson and Polly Mooney was played, with the final table conveniently finishing in that order. In the final event, the Boy's Under 17s, Lincolnshire had five representatives - Rob Cunningham (Horncastle), Adam Hildred (Boston), Michael Mitchell (Boston), Nick Roberts (Horncastle) and Matt Thornton (Sleaford). Although Rob, Adam and Michael all went out in the first round, there was some success when Nick Roberts upset 5/8 seed Tarie Rajak, beating him three-love, before going out 3/1 to eventual runner up Daniel McGinn, and with Matt Thornton receiving two byes to reach the seemis! Eventually, in a final contested between 3/4 seeds Tom Dwyer and Daniel McGinn, Dwyer won by three games to seven, two and two.
