Fountain at the double

March 27, 2016

Long standing member Jake Fountain capped a successful and well attended finals evening at the recent Boston Squash and Racketball Club Championships by winning the main men's title, adding to his success in the over 35 event.

Earlier Fountain had beaten Mujeeb Purvez by 3 games to 0 to win his first over 35 title. An hour later he was back on court in the main final against Simon Kemp. It proved to be a fitting climax and the best match of the night, in what was a tightly fought contest with little to choose between the players. Fountain was particularly impressive in the fifth game and ran out a 3-2 winner to claim the title.

It was a well deserved triumph, Fountain succeeded Mark Hildred as club champion, who after a long unbeaten run has had to retire from senior squash due to a detached retina.

Hildred did however play in the over 45 event and beat Mujeeb Purvez 3-0 in the final. Defending champion Dave Stones continued his impressive run in the over 55 event by beating Stuart Dunlop 3-0.

The ladies' open attracted a much better entry this year, the best competition for many years in that category. Ruth Simpson retained her title with a 3-1 win against Katie Price in a well contested match.

The racketball competitions were again keenly contested, the main final was a father/son affair with Sam Booth beating his father Tim Booth 3-0 in the final to claim his first senior racketball title. The over 35 event was won by Hedley Muscroft, with Tim Booth once again the beaten finalist. Stuart Dunlop completed a busy weekend by beating Andy Baxter to win the over 45 title.

The squash junior event was won by Sam Booth with the runner up Ethan Brown, this being played before finals night on a round robin basis.

The most improved player went to Brett Perkins for his racketball improvement.
